Equine Viral & Neurological Immune Support Blend

Supportive during EHV / EHM viral exposure, stress, or recovery

Please note** Because of the complexity and severity of this condition, this blend — along with our EPM Support Blend — is offered exclusively in 60-day and 90-day supplies, ensuring adequate time for functional healing, neurological support, and immune rebuilding.

Equine herpesvirus (EHV-1) is a highly contagious viral infection transmitted primarily through respiratory droplets and nasal secretions, and indirectly through contaminated hands, clothing, equipment, shared stalls, trailers, boarding barns, rodeos, shows, and competition environments. While many horses carry herpesviruses latently throughout life, outbreaks occur when the virus is activated by stress, travel, immune suppression, or exposure to infected horses. In more severe cases, EHV-1 can progress into a neurological form known as Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM), which causes inflammation in the blood vessels of the brain and spinal cord.

Clinical signs may include:
• Fever or elevated temperature
• Nasal discharge or respiratory irritation
• Hind-end weakness or incoordination (ataxia)
• Difficulty balancing or leaning for support
• Urine dribbling or tail weakness
• Loss of appetite, lethargy, or general malaise

While vaccines exist for EHV, no vaccine guarantees full prevention of infection or progression into neurological involvement. Vaccination may reduce severity and viral shedding, but it is not recommended by veterinarians to vaccinate a horse that has recently been exposed or is currently symptomatic, as doing so may increase inflammation and clinical risk. Veterinary timing, quarantine, and supportive care decisions are essential during outbreak situations.

EHV/EHM can become serious quickly, and veterinary care, quarantine, biosecurity, and close monitoring are critical. While there is no herbal cure for EHV-1 or EHM, supporting the immune system, reducing systemic inflammation, protecting the respiratory and mucosal lining, and reinforcing neurological comfort can play a meaningful role in helping the horse navigate viral stress, exposure, and recovery.

Introducing Wholehearted Harmony’s Equine Viral & Neurological Immune Support Blend

This synergistic herbal formula was created to support horses during times of increased viral exposure risk — such as travel, events, multi-horse barns, boarding situations, outbreak conditions, and recovery. Featuring antiviral, immune-strengthening, anti-inflammatory, and nervous-system supportive botanicals, this blend works to help the body maintain resilience while reducing stress-linked viral activation pathways.

Each herb was chosen intentionally for its ability to support immune regulation, reduce inflammation, promote tissue repair, soothe the respiratory system, protect mucosal membranes, and calm neurological irritation. Many herbs in this formula also demonstrate herbal antiviral properties and adaptogenic effects that help the horse restore internal balance naturally.

While no single protocol works for every horse, our mission is always to support the body’s innate ability to heal and restore harmony. Your feedback matters deeply and supports ongoing refinement.

This blend is best used with a forage-based pellet or grain-free, soy-free whole-food diet for the most effective results. It may be combined with other blends; however, depending on needs, a custom formulation may be more appropriate to avoid redundancy. Contact us or schedule a consultation for support.

Dosages are based on a 1,000 lb horse and may be adjusted depending on condition or sensitivity. Always consult your veterinarian if neurological signs appear or if you suspect EHV-1/EHM exposure.

Important Note

This blend is not a cure, drug, or replacement for veterinary care. It is a supportive herbal approach intended to complement professional medical treatment, quarantine protocols, and biosecurity practices.

The herbs listed below are not simply a collection of individual herbs — it is a synergistic system of support designed to work with the horse’s body on multiple levels at once. When combined, these botanicals create a wider therapeutic impact than any single plant could achieve alone. The antiviral herbs help the body address viral load and cellular protection; the immune-supporting adaptogens strengthen resilience and recovery; the anti-inflammatory botanicals help calm the tissues most affected by neurological irritation; and the respiratory and mucosal protectants help maintain comfort and stability while the body heals. The nervine herbs soothe tension and neurological sensitivity, helping reduce the stress response that can worsen symptoms. Together, they create a comprehensive full-body approach to supporting horses during and after viral exposure, helping the body restore balance from the inside out.

Olive Leaf — Helps support horses experiencing viral challenges by assisting the body in slowing viral replication and reducing viral load stress. Supports immunity during outbreaks and recovery while decreasing inflammation that contributes to neurological irritation and tissue damage. Helps protect cells when the body is fighting infection.
Nutritional: Naturally rich in antiviral polyphenols including oleuropein, plus rutin, flavonoids, selenium, zinc, iron, and powerful antioxidants important for recovery and immune resilience.

Astragalus Root — Strengthens immune defense in horses under viral pressure and helps the body maintain stamina during illness. Supports respiratory health, lymphatic activity, and recovery from stress-induced viral activation. Ideal for horses exposed at events, boarding barns, or traveling.
Nutritional: Contains polysaccharides, saponins, amino acids, calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, selenium, and antioxidant compounds essential for tissue repair.

Rosehips — Supports healing and immune function when horses are fighting fever, inflammation, or neurological stress. Helps restore vitality, strengthen blood vessels, and reduce oxidative damage caused by viral activity. Excellent whole-body nourishment during recovery.
Nutritional: Extremely high in Vitamin C for immune strength; also provides Vitamins A, E, K & B-complex, calcium, magnesium, silica, iron, potassium, and essential fatty acids.

Ginseng — Helps horses experiencing weakness, fatigue, or neurological stress regain strength and energy. Supports balanced immune response and improves ability to cope with inflammation and recovery fatigue. Beneficial for horses struggling after viral exposure or prolonged stress.
Nutritional: Provides ginsenosides, B-vitamins, minerals (iron, zinc, magnesium, potassium), antioxidants, and natural adaptogenic compounds.

Licorice Root — Soothes respiratory irritation common with EHV, protects mucosal tissues, and supports adrenal balance during illness. Helps reduce inflammation affecting the nervous system and may ease discomfort from coughing, fever, or stress responses. Enhances synergy with other herbs.
Nutritional: Contains glycyrrhizin, flavonoids, coumarins, calcium, choline, iron, magnesium, potassium, selenium, and B-vitamins.

Marshmallow Root — Helps protect and soothe irritated respiratory and digestive tissues, especially when mucus membranes are affected by viral activity. Supports comfort during fever spikes, coughing, or nasal discharge while easing inflammation system-wide.
Nutritional: Rich in polysaccharides, pectin, flavonoids, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and trace minerals.

Red Clover Blossoms — Supports circulation and detox pathways that can become overwhelmed during viral illness. Helps move inflammation out of tissues and supports oxygenation to the nervous system, which is vital in neurological cases such as EHM.
Nutritional: High in isoflavones, Vitamins C & E, B-complex, calcium, chromium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, phosphorus, and silica.

Valerian Root — Supports horses experiencing anxiety, trembling, tension, or neurological sensitivity related to EHV/EHM. Helps calm the nervous system, reduce muscle spasms, and improve body comfort during recovery.
Nutritional: Contains valerenic acid, volatile oils, alkaloids, magnesium, calcium, and potassium.

Vervain — Helps ease neurological irritation, emotional tension, and stress responses that can worsen symptoms. Supports nervous system recovery and relaxation for horses struggling with instability, stiffness, or heightened alertness.
