Equine Respiratory Regulation
Equine Respiratory Regulation is a whole-systems Functional master herbal formulation designed to support airway openness, mucus regulation and clearance, respiratory mucosal integrity, immune defense, inflammatory balance, and the neurological pathways that influence breathing.
Respiratory function involves far more than the lungs alone. The airways, bronchial tissues, mucous membranes, immune system, circulation, lymphatic movement, nervous system, and inflammatory response continually interact to influence how efficiently a horse moves air, manages respiratory secretions, and responds to environmental challenges.
Coughing, congestion, thick mucus, restricted airflow, or recurring respiratory sensitivity therefore should not automatically be viewed as isolated lung symptoms. Environmental exposure, immune activation, inflammatory load, nervous-system tension, accumulated secretions, and broader systemic congestion can all influence respiratory expression.
Rather than simply suppressing coughing or drying respiratory secretions, Wholehearted Harmony approaches respiratory health through regulation, movement, and tissue support. Aromatic and expectorant herbs help loosen and mobilize mucus; demulcent botanicals soothe and protect respiratory tissues; antispasmodic herbs support bronchial relaxation; and antimicrobial, immune-regulating, and anti-inflammatory botanicals help strengthen the larger respiratory environment.
The goal is not simply to stop a cough. Coughing and mucus production are biological clearance mechanisms. This formulation supports the body’s ability to maintain appropriate secretions, move mucus effectively, keep airways more open, soothe irritated tissues, and restore healthier respiratory function over time.
Rooted in a species-appropriate, forage-first framework, Equine Respiratory Regulation provides concentrated Functional support when respiratory physiology requires more focused attention than foundational support alone can provide.
Why This Is a Short-Pulse Functional Formulation
Equine Respiratory Regulation is intentionally begun as a 14-day feeding period, followed by a break to observe how the horse responds. Several botanicals within this master herbal formulation are highly aromatic, stimulating to respiratory clearance, or physiologically active. They are included for a specific respiratory purpose rather than as indefinite daily nutritive herbs.
The break is an intentional part of the formulation strategy, allowing the horse to respond after a concentrated period of mucus mobilization, airway support, immune activity, and respiratory tissue care.
Short-term use does not mean the herbs are unsafe. It means dose, duration, and botanical role have been intentionally matched to the purpose of the formulation.
Some horses may benefit from another period of support, while others may no longer require the same degree of respiratory intervention following the initial course. Continued use should therefore be based on the individual horse rather than automatically feeding the formula continuously.
Who This Blend Is For
- Horses experiencing respiratory congestion or excess mucus
- Horses with recurring coughing or airway sensitivity
- Horses requiring additional support for mucus clearance and respiratory tissue integrity
- Horses whose respiratory patterns appear influenced by environmental or immune stress
- Horses needing more concentrated Functional respiratory support during periods of increased respiratory demand
Respiratory Function Is More Than the Symptom
A cough serves a purpose: it helps move material out of the respiratory tract. Mucus also serves an important protective role by helping trap inhaled particles and microorganisms while protecting respiratory tissues.
The goal of Equine Respiratory Regulation is therefore not to silence those responses, but to support appropriate mucus consistency, effective clearance, airway comfort, tissue resilience, immune regulation, and respiratory recovery.
For chronic or recurring respiratory patterns, the larger biological picture should also be considered, including forage and hay quality, dust exposure, ventilation, environment, nutritional status, immune resilience, lymphatic movement, and overall physiological stress.
How This Blend Fits Into a Whole-Horse Plan
Equine Respiratory Regulation belongs within Wholehearted Harmony’s Functional Support layer. Respiratory physiology is closely connected to immune function, lymphatic movement, inflammatory regulation, digestion, nervous-system state, environment, and the horse’s nutritional foundation. Repeated respiratory patterns may therefore require a broader look at what is influencing respiratory expression rather than repeatedly addressing coughing or mucus alone.
Using With Core Essentials & Other Formulations
If your horse is currently receiving a Wholehearted Harmony Core Essentials formulation, Transitional protocol, or another Functional formulation, please contact Wholehearted Harmony before adding Equine Respiratory Regulation.
Functional master herbal formulations are not automatically layered at full labeled feeding amounts. The appropriate combination depends on the specific formulations being used, botanical overlap, respiratory history, and the individual horse. Feeding amounts may need to be adjusted to preserve the intended balance and synergy of the formulations.
Feeding & Use Notes
- Begin with approximately 14 consecutive days
- Follow with a break to observe respiratory response before continuing
- Intended as short-pulse Functional support rather than automatic continuous supplementation
- Best used within a species-appropriate, forage-centered diet
- Feeding amounts are based on the average 1,000 lb horse
- Individual needs may vary according to respiratory history, environment, severity, and overall health
- Contact Wholehearted Harmony before combining with Core, Transitional, or additional Functional formulations

Equine Respiratory Regulation is formulated with cut & sifted whole-food botanicals selected to support airway openness, mucus regulation and clearance, respiratory mucosal integrity, bronchial relaxation, immune defense, inflammatory balance, and nervous-system influences on breathing.
PEPPERMINT LEAF
Targeted Support:
Supports airway openness, respiratory comfort, mucus movement, and digestive ease.
Whole-Systems Support:
Menthol, menthone, rosmarinic acid, flavonoids, and aromatic constituents influence sensory receptors, smooth muscle, respiratory tissues, digestion, and nervous-system signaling. Its cooling aromatic profile supports respiratory ease while helping regulate tension that can influence breathing patterns.
Nutritional Contribution:
Provides volatile oils, flavonoids, phenolic acids, chlorophyll, and modest mineral content. Its primary contribution is aromatic and phytochemical.
OREGANO
