Equine EPM Neuroimmune Recovery

Equine EPM Neuroimmune Recovery

Rating is 5.0 out of five stars based on 1 review

Equine EPM Neuroimmune Recovery is a whole-systems Functional master herbal formulation designed to support neurological resilience, immune regulation, lymphatic movement, antioxidant defense, metabolic processing, and stress adaptation in horses diagnosed with Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM) or undergoing veterinary evaluation for neurological signs consistent with EPM.

EPM affects the central nervous system and may present differently from horse to horse depending on the location and extent of neurological involvement. Weakness, incoordination, muscle asymmetry or atrophy, changes in balance, and altered movement are among the patterns that may occur. Because similar signs can accompany other neurological conditions, appropriate veterinary evaluation and diagnostics remain an important part of the larger picture.

Wholehearted Harmony does not approach EPM as though the nervous system exists in isolation. Neurological recovery occurs within a biological environment influenced by immune activity, inflammatory signaling, oxidative stress, circulation, lymphatic movement, digestive and hepatic function, nutritional status, and the horse’s ability to adapt to prolonged physiological stress.

This formulation therefore focuses on the neuroimmune relationship rather than attempting to function as a stand-alone treatment for the protozoal infection itself. Adaptogenic and nervous-system botanicals support regulation and resilience; immune-active herbs support appropriate immune responsiveness; lymphatic and hepatic botanicals support normal movement and metabolic processing; and antioxidant-rich plants help protect tissues during periods of increased physiological demand.

Rooted in a species-appropriate, forage-first framework, Equine EPM Neuroimmune Recovery is designed to complement the horse’s nutritional foundation and veterinary treatment plan while providing broader botanical support throughout neurological recovery.

Why This Is a Longer-Term Functional Formulation

Equine EPM Neuroimmune Recovery is designed for a minimum 60-day feeding period.

Unlike the short-pulse botanicals used in several Wholehearted Harmony Transitional protocols, the herbs in this formulation were selected for a longer period of neurological, immune, and adaptive support. Rebuilding physiological resilience and supporting nervous-system recovery are not short-term processes, and continued observation with this formulation has shown that a longer period of consistent support is more appropriate than the former 30-day approach.

The 60-day period reflects the intended role of the formulation as ongoing neuroimmune and recovery support, not the duration of medical treatment for EPM itself.

Who This Blend Is For

  • Horses diagnosed with EPM and receiving appropriate veterinary care
  • Horses recovering during or following veterinary EPM treatment
  • Horses undergoing veterinary evaluation for neurological signs when EPM is being considered
  • Horses needing longer-term neurological, immune, antioxidant, lymphatic, and adaptive support following an EPM-related illness

Important EPM Consideration

Equine EPM Neuroimmune Recovery is intended as complementary whole-system support and is not a substitute for appropriate diagnostics, veterinary care, or antiprotozoal treatment when indicated.

Neurological signs should always be taken seriously because EPM is only one possible cause of neurological dysfunction.

How This Blend Fits Into a Whole-Horse Plan

Equine EPM Neuroimmune Recovery belongs within Wholehearted Harmony’s Functional Support layer. It provides more concentrated support around neurological and immune physiology than foundational support alone.

Forage quality, nutritional status, gastrointestinal health, stress load, movement capacity, medical treatment, environment, and the horse’s broader health history should all be considered as part of the recovery picture.

Using With Core Essentials & Other Formulations

If your horse is currently receiving a Wholehearted Harmony Core Essentials formulation, Transitional protocol, or another Functional formulation, please contact Wholehearted Harmony before adding Equine EPM Neuroimmune Recovery.

Functional formulations are not automatically layered at full labeled feeding amounts. The appropriate combination depends on the specific formulations being used, botanical overlap, current treatment, health history, and the individual needs of the horse. Feeding amounts may need to be adjusted to preserve the intended balance and synergy of the formulations.

Feeding & Use Notes

  • Designed for a minimum 60-day feeding period
  • Intended as Functional neuroimmune and recovery support
  • Best used within a species-appropriate, forage-centered diet
  • Feeding amounts are based on the average 1,000 lb horse
  • Individual needs may vary according to neurological involvement, health history, medical treatment, diet, and overall condition

Equine EPM Neuroimmune Recovery is formulated with cut & sifted botanicals selected to support neurological resilience, immune regulation, lymphatic movement, antioxidant protection, metabolic processing, and adaptation during prolonged neurological recovery.

OLIVE LEAF

Targeted Support:
Supports immune surveillance, antioxidant defense, microbial balance, vascular integrity, and cellular protection.

Whole-Systems Support:
Oleuropein and related secoiridoids, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds support normal immune signaling, inflammatory regulation, circulation, and protection from oxidative stress during periods of increased physiological demand.

Nutritional Contribution:
Used primarily for oleuropein, flavonoids, polyphenols, and related phytochemistry rather than significant vitamin or mineral contribution.

PAU D’ARCO

Supports microbial balance, antioxidant defenses, immune responsiveness, and cellular resilience.

Whole-Systems Support:
Pau d’arco contains naphthoquinones, including lapachol-related compounds, along with flavonoids and other phenolics. Its role within this formulation centers on immune and microbial ecology and broader cellular protection rather than functioning as a stand-alone anti-protozoal agent.

Nutritional Contribution:
Used primarily for naphthoquinones and antioxidant phytochemistry rather than meaningful nutrient delivery.

ELEUTHERO ROOT

Targeted Support:
Supports physiological adaptation, stamina, stress resilience, immune function, and recovery.

Whole-Systems Support:
Eleutherosides, polysaccharides, and phenolic compounds support adaptive stress physiology and help maintain nervous, immune, and metabolic resilience during prolonged periods of physiological demand.

Nutritional Contribution:
Used primarily for eleutherosides and adaptive phytochemistry rather than meaningful vitamin or mineral contribution.

ASHWAGANDHA ROOT

Targeted Support:
Supports nervous-system regulation, stress adaptation, muscle resilience, recovery, and normal immune balance.

Whole-Systems Support:
Withanolides, alkaloids, and other phytochemicals contribute adaptogenic, antioxidant, and inflammatory-modulating activity, supporting the relationship between nervous-system regulation, stress physiology, immunity, and tissue recovery.

Nutritional Contribution:
Used primarily for withanolides and related adaptive phytochemistry rather than significant nutritional delivery.

CLEAVERS

Targeted Support:
Supports lymphatic movement, tissue-fluid balance, urinary elimination, and normal clearance.

Whole-Systems Support:
Iridoids, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, tannins, and plant acids support gentle lymphatic and urinary movement, helping maintain tissue-fluid balance during prolonged physiological stress.

This is blend that people should consider when you can't quite pin down what might be going on. We have used it on horse who has string halt because of his not so sweet demeanor and it was life changing for him. He is calm and obviously in a lot less discomfort.
