Equine Liver & Kidney Recovery Protocol

The Equine Liver & Kidney Recovery Protocol is a two-phase, whole-systems program designed to support detoxification, tissue repair, and metabolic recovery of the liver and kidneys in horses that have experienced significant physiological burden. This protocol is intended for horses that have been “bogged down” by repeated medical interventions, medications, anesthesia, chronic stress, or long-term metabolic strain — not as a daily wellness blend, but as a targeted recovery process.

The liver and kidneys are deeply interconnected organs, working together to process metabolic waste, medications, environmental toxins, and byproducts of normal physiological function. The liver converts nitrogenous waste into urea, which is then transported through the bloodstream to the kidneys for filtration and excretion. When this system becomes overwhelmed, the body often compensates in less efficient ways, leading to systemic congestion, immune stress, digestive imbalance, and reduced overall vitality.

Rather than aggressively forcing detoxification, Wholehearted Harmony approaches liver and kidney recovery through intentional sequencing. This protocol is designed to first support gentle mobilization and clearance of accumulated burden, then shift into a longer phase of repair, nourishment, and stabilization. By respecting the timing and capacity of these organs, the body is better able to eliminate waste without overwhelming elimination pathways or creating rebound congestion.

Rooted in a species-appropriate, forage-first framework, the Equine Liver & Kidney Recovery Protocol works with the horse’s natural biology rather than overriding it. The selected herbs support liver enzyme activity, bile flow, kidney and urinary function, lymphatic movement, gut protection, and immune resilience — all while providing nutritional and mineral support that is often depleted during periods of chronic stress or medical intervention.

This protocol is especially appropriate for horses recovering from extensive dental procedures, surgeries, long-term medication use, or other situations where metabolic and detoxification systems have been heavily taxed. It may also be used periodically, under appropriate guidance, as a structured recovery program for horses showing signs of systemic congestion or reduced metabolic efficiency.

The Equine Liver & Kidney Recovery Protocol is intentionally phased, time-bound, and supportive in nature. It is not designed for continuous use, and it is not intended to replace veterinary care or diagnostics. Instead, it serves as a complementary, whole-systems approach to restoring balance, resilience, and function to the organs responsible for filtration, detoxification, and long-term metabolic health.

Feeding & Use Notes

  • This is a two-phase recovery protocol, not a daily maintenance blend

  • Best used alongside a forage-based, species-appropriate diet

  • Feeding amounts are based on the average 1,000 lb horse

  • Individual needs may vary depending on health history and level of metabolic burden

Consultation is encouraged to ensure this protocol is appropriate for your horse and to determine optimal timing and repetition.

Protocol Ingredients & Use

All ingredients are 100% Certified Organic or Wildcrafted, Non-GMO, and Kosher.
The Equine Liver & Kidney Recovery Protocol is a two-phase program designed to be followed in sequence. Phases are not intended to overlap.

PHASE 1 — CLEAR & MOBILIZE

Duration: Approximately 7–10 days, followed by a short taper

Purpose:
Phase 1 is designed to gently mobilize accumulated metabolic burden while supporting liver function, bile flow, and early kidney and urinary clearance. This phase prepares the body for detoxification without overwhelming elimination pathways.

Phase 1A — Powdered Support

  • Barberry

  • Yellow Dock

Focus:
Supports liver stimulation, bile flow, metabolic mobilization, and early waste movement.

Phase 1B — Cut & Sifted Clearance Support

  • Dandelion Root

  • Oregon Grape Root

  • Milk Thistle Seed

  • Juniper Berries

  • Uva Ursi

Focus:
Supports liver–kidney communication, urinary tract function, early toxin clearance, and prevention of toxin recirculation.

Phase 1 Transition

Toward the end of Phase 1, intake is intentionally reduced for several days before discontinuing this phase entirely. This taper allows the body to adjust gradually and helps prevent rebound congestion or elimination stress.

Once Phase 1 is complete, all Phase 1 herbs are stopped before moving forward.

PHASE 2 — REPAIR & REBUILD

Duration: Approximately 21–30 days

Purpose:
Phase 2 focuses on tissue repair, metabolic stabilization, and long-term recovery following detoxification. This phase nourishes the liver, kidneys, lymphatic system, and gut while supporting immune and adrenal resilience.

Phase 2 — Cut & Sifted Rebuild Blend

  • Marshmallow Root

  • Milk Thistle Seed

  • Rosehips (Seedless)

  • Eleuthero Root

  • Dandelion Root

  • Cleavers

Focus:
Supports gut lining repair, liver regeneration, lymphatic movement, antioxidant replenishment, and overall systemic resilience following detoxification.

Important Use Considerations

  • This protocol is not intended for continuous use

  • Phases must be completed in order

  • Phase 2 should never be started without first completing Phase 1

  • This protocol is best used for horses with significant metabolic or medical burden, not as a routine wellness product

In some cases, a second round may be appropriate, depending on severity and individual response. Any repeat use should be approached cautiously, with adequate time between protocols and consideration of the horse’s overall condition. Consultation is strongly encouraged before repeating this protocol.

Why This Protocol Is Different

The Equine Liver & Kidney Recovery Protocol emphasizes sequencing, timing, and recovery, not aggressive detoxification. By respecting the body’s capacity to clear and then rebuild, this approach supports long-term organ function, resilience, and balance within a species-appropriate, forage-first framework.
